ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
We look forward to developing in youngsters an important human dimension, a quality intercultural learning and an mind-opening experience. Overall, the project aims to promote sustainable development and resilience, and the new values that we can adopt to respect the environment and live together in harmony. With this project, we want to share with youngsters concrete solutions to think over and change their way of life, and understand the utility of adaptability, creativity and resilience to respond to the current climate challenge. It may be a challenging experience, but the more we let go our old patterns, the more we are open to learn and live! We will have three 2-month projects along the year 🙂 And we are starting the search for our four first volunteers, from March to May 2022. Some of the activities: host a Youth Exchange, growing mushrooms, animal and garden care, communication, animations and workshops for youngsters, homemade preparations, help in maintainance of the camp.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
IDC is located in a small town,18km from Carcassonne where the nearest airport and train station are (the volunteers will be picked from there and will be taken to the camping). This region is rural, living mainly from wine farming and tourism. The cathar Castles of Lastours are just in front us, and around the area there are other castles and touristic places. Accomodation: volunteers will stay in mobile homes, in shared-rooms, usually with another volunteer of the same sex. Food: the food will be bought twice per month, and volunteers will take turns to cook healthy and low-impact food!
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
The volunteers will be supported by our staff of professionals, who will guide them in order to achieve a succesfull accomplishment of the tasks. Depending on their tasks and responsabilities, they will receive instructions and formations to work, for example: on the garden, cooking team, compost and waste management, communications, organization of events, animal care… There will also be general workshops proposed both from IDC and the volunteers, usually about sustainability, low-impact food, zero waste, property of plants, yoga, health, sport, art, dance, among others.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We are looking for volunteers between 18 and 30 years old. We will host one volunteer from each nationality for each period. The activities will be adapted to the age and skills of each youngster. On the other hand, a certain level of environmental awareness will be asked, in order to go deeper into the topic with the participants. Some of the values we are looking for: open-mindness, creativity, responsability, adaptability, environmental awareness, low-impact lifestyle, teamwork, will of new experiences, personal development.
