Short-term for mushrooms: Paco

Hello!! My name is Paco and this is my experience with my volunteering at IDC in Carcassonne. I have been there from June 12 to August 9, and honestly, it has been an intense few months for personal reasons. But regarding the time spent focusing on my stay there, I had a great time. I worked five days a week with my colleagues, who made the work much more enjoyable. My job consisted of growing oyster mushrooms, collecting coffee grounds from cafes, and mixing it with mycelium and silver skins at the organization’s premises. Then, on Tuesdays, there is usually a market where we sell the mushrooms we cultivate, both fresh and cooked. I am in love with this because they are delicious, I assure you!!!

If you want to see nature and landscapes, it’s a great place for that. There are many plans if you know how to get around and discover some hidden spots, as the most visible ones are, in my opinion, the least special. But if what you want to see is the city, Carcassonne might feel a bit small for you. However, with the train, you can easily reach larger cities like Toulouse, Perpignan, Narbonne, Montpellier, etc. I would say take advantage of the train because they offer travel deals for one euro, and they are really worth it. But the crucial thing is to have a good attitude to enjoy yourself and get moving because, due to my personal situation, I haven’t been able to move around much, and that has been a waste. But I assure you that if you do it, you’ll have a great time.

I hope this serves as a helpful review for anyone reading it, and if you have any questions, I’m here!!! Best regards, I hope you have a great volunteering experience!

I’m attaching some photos of the experience and of myself.
