Volunteer Profile: Sabrina Kerz

Hello! My name is Sabrina; I am a 17 year old girl from Germany. I am doing my long term EVS here at IDC in Lastours for 12 months starting in August 2017.

Before coming here, I have graduated from High School. My idea was to spend a gap year abroad before starting university. I chose to do my EVS here at IDC because I am interested in environmental topics and I like to do creative work.  Moreover, I would like to improve my French skills.

My activities here are in the field of communication. Here I can take my time to learn how to shoot and edit videos. I also help with the work on social media and the webpages. But I also enjoy doing common tasks such as cooking lunch or dinner with the other volunteers.

At the same time I hope to use my free time here to develop different skills e.g. in the fields of language, music and sports.  Since this is a very isolated place I am not able to join a sports club or take music lessons every week. On the other hand this is a very calm and quiet place, where I can go for runs in the morning and spend the evening alone or together with my friends.

Here I want to experience a totally different lifestyle than I am used to from home. I live in an international community with the other volunteers and I am able to learn about the different cultures and languages of Europe every day. I really like the common life on the camping. You cannot choose the people you live with, but in the same time you are able to discover different personalities and characters. For me it feels like a big international family I live and share my life with.
