WAKE UP! 7-month long-term volunteers for a sustainable project

Program: European Solidarity Corps

Countries: All EU Countries

Number of volunteers: 2

Dates: 18/04/2023 to 17/12/2023

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
We are looking for 2 volunteers to help in different activities related to sustainability, permaculture, eco-building and resilience. Volunteers will have the chance to learn how to set the bases for a sustainable land, help with animals and plants, help in the maintenance of the place, food and shopping logistics, animations in schools, build with wood…Of course there are also the community lifestyle tasks and the sustainable and green practices of each day. With this project, we aim to promote commitment, ledearship, autonomy and resilience in order to make our daily life more ethical. The current crises (health, environmental and social) require us to think about how within our daily lives we must promote respect for the environment and living together. The team of volunteers will experience a quality intercultural learning and an openness to the world, having the chance to free themselves from judgements.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
IDC is located in a small town, 20km from Carcassonne where the nearest train station and airport are (the volunteers will be picked from there and will be taken to the place). This region is rural, living mainly from wine farming and tourism. The place is surrounded by nature. Accomodation: volunteers will stay in mobile homes, in shared-rooms, usually with another volunteer of the same sex. Food will be bought twice per month, and volunteers will take turns to cook healthy and low-impact food! following the food guidelines.

  • Manage the tools and machine storage (Tool Caravan)
  • Help in all community and green practices: compost, taking care of animals, waste management…

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

  • Proactive, motivated to do and learn!
  • Organized and responsible with the tasks
  • the volunteer will also support the community and sustainable tasks of the organization (so she/he should be ready to also make her/his hands dirty!)
  • interested in resilience and sustainability, and rural lifestyle
  • teamwork and good communication skills (sharing feedback, making questions, asking for feedback…)
  • responsible and engaged
  • interested in social and ecological issues
  • motivated to have a rural-life experience
  • ready to be outdoors and do physical activities
  • aware and prepared to experiment and maybe make some mistakes
