Volunteer Profile: Maïva Vercout

maiva

From July 1 to August 29, in 2016 I went with Pierre in Indonesia for the European Voluntary Service.

Our mission was to make mini movies to promote local NGOs Great Indonesia. We were not the only ones to make this type of video, divided into 7 more pairs Europe and Asia had the same project we are in different countries. You can also find all the videos on youtube, voluntube.org or our page Voluntube Facebook page!

In France, I am a student of DUT Marketing Techniques that I finished just before leaving for Indonesia. I was really motivated by this project, mainly for the audiovisual section, I had the occasion to learn how to edit promotional videos. We had a training in Lastours before the departure with all the project participants.

We learn how to use the equipment and software, lent by IDC, the sending organization. It was great to meet all the participants before the start, and especially to exchange with the two Indonesian participants tips and info about their culture and lives in Indonesia in order to better prepare our trip.

During two months in Indonesia, we have been through so many adventures! We spent a month in the countryside in a village of coffee producers, then a month in Bandung, the fourth largest city Indonesia.

We participated in two workcamps mainly on the theme of the environment and waste awareness. We made an organic garden, learned to compost, clean the river Cikapundung and also crepe sales to make money and so to buy books for children everywhere we were. We spent a lot of time with children, besides we have also been in schools for English classes. This is one of my best memory the bottom, children have so much energy !!
