Volunteer Profile: Marcio Sherzo

volunteer profile marcio

My name is Márcio dos Santos de Sousa I’m Brazilian, I am 24 years old and I am a volunteer at the Campsite Le Belvédère de Lastours in France for 10 months. Being an EVS volunteer is a powerful experience. We have the opportunity to discover new things and the pleasure of living in a new atmosphere, by sharing with people of different nationalities my identity and my personality. My host organization is the IDC (Initiative and Citizen Development).

My host organization is the IDC (Initiative and Citizen Development). I have different activities that bring me all kind of sensations. Most often, we organize events at the campsite; to make everything to work well, teamwork is very important. For two months I did workshops with children in local village schools, it was moments of learning and distraction. I like workshops with children, it is always an opportunity to learn and share good times. Among the many events we organized at the campsite, the Medieval Weekend was one of the most important. Teamwork

Teamwork was once again important to prepare the decoration, the meals, the medieval atmosphere, the distribution of flyers etc. Nothing was easy, but in the end it was a success. The Intercultural Night, another important event in our campsite, made it possible for the other volunteers and me, to prepare a meal typical of own countries and to present it to the local community. It was a very interesting and cultural experience. We had the opportunity to let others discover something from my culture and vice versa.

Exchanges between young people, team meetings, taking care of the cleanliness of the campsite, shopping, distractions, new acquaintances, meeting new friends and especially EVS is an opportunity to leave the comfort zone and Go further to challenge the world (in a good way) and also to challenge ourselves. Certainly volunteering is responsible for personal change, in addition to the professional opportunities that EVS can provide. No one will ever be the same after having challenged oneself by discovering the world and discovering oneself. No one will ever be the same after being an EVS. Thanks to this program to exist.
