Volunteer profile: Matteo

volunteer profile matteo

My name is Matteo Piras, I’m 29 years old, I come from Italy. I studied Cultural Patrimony at the University of Cagliari and at the University of Aix-Marseille. I also studied electronic music at the Civic School in Cagliari. I had already participated in an Erasmus project in France while studying at university and I wanted to do another experiment abroad by working as a volunteer. I checked the projects available in France and chose the project most inherent to my studies and my passions: I wanted to know different cultures, improve my knowledge of the culture and the French language, improve my professional skills, Contribute to the work of a cultural association.

Now I am a volunteer in the Music’Al Sol : Organization organize shows of current music and cultural events. We are in charge of the promotion, the communication and the organization of the events. Music’Al Sol is committed to the development of ethical themes and culture in the rural environment. After only two and a half months of EVS, I improved my professional skills, working as a team and my knowledge in French; I learned to be flexible and available, and I met several different cultures.

I have got beautiful memories, I like to feel satisfied when an event is successful after a big job. I also like the moments of conviviality with the people of the association, the meetings with the other volunteers etc. The biggest challenge for me is to continue to learn, improve my skills, my knowledge in French, make my contribution to the activities of the association and know new people. This experience represents a great opportunity for me to enrich my personal knowledge while preserving the ties I have forget with other volunteers, the advice I have received, the professional experiences and the beautiful places I have visited. For young people who want to do an EVS, I advise them to find out about the host organization and where it is located. Be flexible, respectful, curious, receptive and open to the knowledge of different cultures. But also to study the language of the country where we are going to do EVS, set goals and commit to get them!
