Last summer, I spent three months in the wonderful place of the Camping Le Belvedere as an EVS volunteer of VolunTube project from GREAT Indonesia to IDC France. I had so much fun there. Having audio-visual training, making videos, meeting other EVS volunteers, working and spending time together with them, having local events, tasting food from other countries are the things that I obviously treasure. I did have the atmosphere of living interculturally, it was a priceless moment for me. Another story is that I went to France with my big fear of dogs and cats but living there for three months could help me getting used to with dogs and cats. Moreover, another EVS volunteer helped me to overcome my fear.
After going back to my own country, I continue my life either as a volunteer or as a student. As a volunteer, fortunately, now I become one of the trainers in GREAT Indonesia. Experiencing EVS and some International Voluntary Service activities is one of the factors that brings me to this phase. And for sure, I keep making videos either for my organization or personal ones. Besides, participating in this non-formal education helps me so much in self-development, to be more open and aware of my surroundings as a youth, and to act what people say as “learning by doing”. And as a student itself, I continued my study and finally graduated last April. And now, I will be teaching in one of senior high school in Semarang, Indonesia.
The last word, I will say that I have no regret to spend my only 3 months doing EVS. It’s totally worth. If I had a chance, I would like to do so even for more than 3 months. Because by this, I feel like living of life not only as Sefty, a citizen of Indonesia, but also as a volunteer, as a youth, and as a human of this world.
