Volunteer Profile: Tengku Antony Satria

volunteer profile antony

Hello! Selamat pagi! My name is Antony Satria. I come from Indonesia. I am one of the participants of VolunTube project sent by NGO GREAT in Indonesia. VolunTube is a project supported by the European Commission within the framework of the Erasmus + program. It increases the visibility of international shipyards and promotes them to young people.

I made my European Voluntary Service, organized by Initiative and Citizen Development (IDC), at Campsite Le Belvédère from 10 June to 31 August 2016. In collaboration with my partner, Sefty, we left Semarang to come to Lastours.

This was the first time we were in Europe. I discovered some very interesting things about French culture, for example, kissing on the cheeks is very common. This is something I usually do only with people I’ve known for a very long time.

I am also surprised that in France there are not only big cities like Paris but also small towns like Toulouse where there are fewer people than in my city in Indonesia! I saw many people in Indonesia, where I grew up to 8 million people.

After a few years, I moved to a smaller city, called Semarang, which has 1.5 million people. I am happy to have lived in the country that produces the famous good wine and cheese. I have tasted many varieties and now I can talk to my friends and family! I am very happy with my EVS project in Lastours, whose goal was to create videos, which I like very much.

The campsite was very quiet and reconnected me to nature. I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt this feeling about Lastours; this is also the case for the other EVS volunteers who are there and for the new volunteers who will arrive. This summer was wonderful!
