Volunteer Testimony || Luis Frank

Luis Frank | Germany | Have Less, Live More 2023 | Coordinating/Hosting organization: IDC

Hi everybody!
My name is Luis, I am a 19-year-old boy from Germany. I spent 8 weeks at IDC. This project is my
second volunteering through the ESC-program. I truly appreciate the opportunity for young people all
across Europe to go abroad.

Here at IDC I was part of the so called mushroom-team. My daily routine was to collect coffee waste
in various cafes in the city centre of Carcassonne and then mix it with the mycelium. Also, we took
care of the incredibly fast-growing mushrooms :). To me it was super interesting to discover new
ecological activities and techniques, as I am very interested in gardening.

But the project is only one part of what makes the time a great experience. I was surrounded by
inspiring people from all Europe. Together we spent a unique time during the work, on day trips,
during a game night or simply together. Definitely, in community life it can be challenging to find a
daily routine and compromises that everyone is happy with. Anyway, it is worth it, as one grows with
every challenge.

I am thankful to my new friends with whom I spent a brilliant time that I won’t forget!
Luis
