Volunteer Testimony || Odyssey

Odisej Mušković | Croatia | Short term ESC 2024 | Coordinating and hosting organization: IDC

My name is Odisej I’m 24 Years old. Currently im living on a small Island called Veli Iž near Zadar,
Croatia. I choose this project to change my daily life/ routines to try something new in a different
environment. I choose this project since it’s in France and it’s my first time here and to learn how
to grow mushrooms with coffee. And I knew I could use this knowledge & experience at my home.
In this project I was collecting coffe from different places. There is a driving tour outside Carcassonne
and City Center which is near the shop where we mix coffee and store it there before it’s ready.
We have a special house for mushrooms where we cut the bags so mushrooms can grow and we also
harvest them for market on Tuesday or for online ordering on Thursday.
We also a have few animals on campsite which we need to take care, feeding, cleaning the stables and
closing animals at night.
Every week we receive new schedule with different tasks like cleaning commun kitchen, toilets, snack or
mobile homes, watering plants, ironing clothes and emptying the trash cans. We also have French
lessons and yoga sessions once per week. About IDC organization during first few weeks it was
interesting to say at least, since there was few miss communication and unnecessary comments on their
part which we didn’t like. So we needed to resolve it between us volunteers to improve our communication. We made a group so we can discuss about our tasks and planning how and what we will
do. It helped us a lot. We were also planning and going on cool adventures and camping
around the Carcassonne. Which was really cool and important for us so we can chill and have fun
without anyone interrupting us. We saw a lot of things and made the most of our free days even tho
we didn’t had much since not everyone is available on the same days but French holidays helped us a
bit since there was a lot of them in may.

We took a lot of cool and crazy photos that we reminded us of those times. I also got idea that I should get a drone so I could make even cooler videos and photos. And I could also use it for business. This is kinda a small plan that I have for future. I would like to do some videos/photos with drone and try to make some money. There is a lot of different ways of using a drone specially FPV drone I will just say that the feeling is like you are flying like a bird in wilderness.

My short term plan is finish short term project in Poland and to see if there is something interesting
available to do, or I will need to search for a job. I don’t have any expectations I just go with flow and
carefully planning short or long term plans without stress. But I know that for a long term plan I want to
have my own business I have some Ideas but that’s all from me.. Peace out Girl Scout.
