Volunteer Profile: Yohajothi Murugesu

jothi

Name: Yohajothi Murugesu

Country of origin: Malaysia

Age: 27 years old

What are your first impressions of volunteering in IDC? The volunteer work involves being in nature and working with friendly Europeans.

What kind of activities do you do in the camp? I have a variety of responsibilities in the campsite. I am in charge of running a children’s class in the school. I also do some cooking, cleaning in the mobile homes for the customers. I teach English to the volunteers, do some Facebook updates for the camping, and a bit of gardening as well.

What do you feel about being in France and meeting international people? It is such a wonderful opportunity for me to be in France as it is my first time in Europe. The people are very friendly. I also am very curious about different cultures and it’s nice to get to know the French culture and the varying cultures the volunteers come from.

Can you give some tips for volunteers going outside of their country? It’s usually for a variety of reasons but my tip would be to explore the world and see what other cultures are like, the idea of living abroad in another country, and experiencing a life different than their own.
